Big Ten Basketball: Preseason Rankings

The Big Ten had a successful 2015-2016 season. The conference produced nine 20-game winners, four 25-game winners, and seven NCAA Tournament teams. The Big Ten was represented by the Indiana Hoosiers, Michigan State Spartans, Purdue Boilermakers, Maryland Terrapins, Iowa Hawkeyes, Wisconsin Badgers, and Michigan Wolverines. The furthest a Big Ten team went is the Sweet 16, where Indiana fell to the eventual national title participants, the #1 seed North Carolina Tar Heels.

All of these teams start the 2016-2017 season with a clean slate and hope once again the Big Ten is represented well in the Big Dance. Here are the preseason rankings of the Big Ten.

Michigan State Spartans: 29-5

Indiana Hoosiers: 25-9

Maryland Terrapins: 25-8
Wisconsin Badgers: 20-12
Michigan Wolverines: 22-12
Purdue Boilermakers; 26-8
Ohio State Buckeyes: 20-13
Iowa Hawkeyes: 21-10
Northwestern Wildcats: 20-12
Nebraska Cornhuskers: 16-18
Penn State Nittany Lions: 16-16
Illinois Fighting Illini: 15-19
Rutgers Scarlet Knights: 7-25
Minnesota Golden Gophers: 8-23
As long as Tom Izzo is in East Lansing, his team will be considered both Big Ten favorites,  national title contenders, as well as Michigan State basketball tickets being of the most sought out tickets in college basketball.  Behind the Spartans, the conference is very close. The Terrapins may have the most talented player in the conference with Melo Trimble, the Hoosiers lost two of their top four starters, and Wisconsin has been nothing but consistent under Bo Ryan. It will be another fun and exciting season of Big Ten basketball.
