Lane Kiffin will leave the Alabama Crimson Tide at the end of the season to become the head coach at Florida Atlantic University. It will be quite the change of intensity for Kiffin, who goes from Alabama’s offensive coordinator under Nick Saban to the head coach of the Florida Atlantic Owls, a Conference USA team who is coming off a 3-9 season.
This will be Kiffin’s third head coaching job in college, as he had previous head coaching stints at USC and Tennessee, compiling a 35-21 overall record. Kiffin also spent time with the Oakland Raiders, going 5-15 before being fired after four games into the 2008 season.
Kiffin was brought on as the Alabama offensive coordinator in 2014, leading the Crimson Tide to a National Championship in 2015, back to back SEC championships, and only three losses in three seasons. Kiffin has also seen eight of his offensive players at Alabama get drafted in the NFL.
Whoever has bought Alabama football tickets over the past couple of season has seen Kiffin’s powerful offense at work first hand. Kiffin will now likely have full control of the FAU program, he his goal is to totally build the program from an essentially unknown program into a legitimate program.
