Going to a comedy show in New York is one of the better ways to spend a night in the greatest city in the world. Some of the world’s greatest comedians hail from the city that never sleeps, with many still performing randomly throughout the city’s dozens of clubs.
One of the city’s most well-known comedy clubs is the Comedy Cellar, located at 117 Macdougal Street in the heart of Greenwich Village. The Cellar, as well as other clubs, have the reputation for having famous comedians popping in for a short set to work on some new material. On January 11th, the Cellar had a little more than a random pop in, as some of the best comedians in the world all performed on the same night.
Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Aziz Ansari, and Amy Schumer were all in the building and did short sets to a very surprised and lucky crowd. New York comedian Jon Laster, who was part of the original lineup, gave an inside scoop of what went down that night. Seinfeld was hesitant to go on, but eventually did a short set. Him and Chris Rock went back and forth, before Schumer and Ansari went on stage. Laster wrote “Tonight I was humbled and blessed to have been a part of the greatest show EVER in the history of the Comedy Cellar and maybe comedy period! Felt kinda surreal working with my idols. The Birds, Jordans, LeBrons all in this little hallway but I honestly didn’t feel intimidated I felt like I belonged at least like my work did.”
Whoever follows comedy, knows the price of Jerry Seinfeld tickets, as he is still one of the most sought out comedians out there. The fact that all of these A+ comedians were all under the same roof at the same time, in their natural environment, for the very low price of a comedy club, is simply amazing. What a special night for New York’s comedy scene and the people in attendance.
