You don’t see many fighters throwing in the towel in boxing anymore, but that is exactly what happened Saturday NIght in Las Vegas for the WBO super featherweight championship between Vasyl Lomachenko and Nicholas Walters. Before the eighth round started, Walters did not get up from his stool and conceded the match to Lomachenko.
Lomachenko totally dominated the fight from the beginning and made it clear he was the the much better fighter. He amazed boxing fans with his fantastic footwork along with his ability to keep attacking Walters. Walters did land a few body shots, but it simply wasn’t enough to stop the defending champion.
After the fifth round, the fight looked more like a sparring session than a title bout. Walters’ only chance to win was to land a knockout punch, but that was simply not feasible with Lomachenko defensive ability. Walters’ threw in the towel as he sat on his stool before the eighth round began.
Lomachenko future is unknown from here on out. Fans who would like to purchase boxing tickets for his next match will have to wait to see who the opponent is. Possible candidates include Terence Crawford, Rances Barthelemy, Robert Easter Jr., or Terry Flanagan. Lomachenko shown his great boxing ability against Walters, now let’s see who he goes up against next.
