5 Seconds of Summer Ticket Information

5 Seconds of Summer was formed in Sydney in 2011. The members, Luke Hemmings (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Michael Clifford (guitar/backing vocals), Calum Hood (bass guitar/backing vocals), gathered a following after posting covers on YouTube, including Chris Brown’s “Next To You.” They were joined by Ashton Irwin (drummer/backing vocals) in December 2011, and signed with Capitol Records.

5SOS rapidly gained a passionate fanbase reminiscent of One Direction or Fall Out Boy. In spite of their recent appearance on the music scene, they became one of 2014’s favorite breakthrough bands, and have won several MTV and Teen Music Choice awards.

Their hits include “She Looks So Perfect” and “Don’t Stop.” For an unparallelled feeling of teenage joy, get tickets to see 5 Seconds of Summer in concert!

A Brief History: 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS)

5 Seconds of Summer (also known as 5SOS) is an Australian pop-punk band. The band consists of four members: Luke Hemmings (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Michael Clifford (guitar and backing vocals), Ashton Irwin (drums and backing vocals), and Calum Hood (bass guitar and backing vocals). Their musical style has been described as both pop-punk and pop-rock. The band has cited McFly, Blink-182, All Time Low, Mayday Parade, Green Day, Boys Like Girls and Busted as their musical influences. The band has also been compared to the British group One Direction.

5 Seconds of Summer was formed in Sydney, Australia in December of 2011. The band members met while attending school at Norwest Christian College. After forming, they began to upload their covers of popular songs such as Mike Posner’s “Please Don’t Go” and Chris Brown’s “Next To You” onto Hemmings’ YouTube channel and instantly received thousands of hits. Despite receiving negative criticism for being a rebellious teen rock band in their hometown of Sydney, the band’s unique sound instantly caught the attention of many major music labels. The band was an instant success, and they soon signed a publishing deal with Sony ATV Music Publishing.

In 2012, the group launched their career with the release of their two EP’s. The first, entitled Unplugged reached number three on the Australian iTunes charts. Unplugged also made the Top 20 in both New Zealand and Sweden. With the release of the EP, the band began to get international attention. Members Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson of the uber-popular British group One Direction gained the group even more popularity after they tweeted about 5 Seconds of Summer’s music.

The second half of 2012 was spent writing music and developing their sound with Christian Lo Russo and Joel Chapman of Australian band Amy Meredith. Lo Russo and Chapman wrote songs and co-produced the band’s second EP Somewhere New, which was released in 2012.

The following year, it was announced that the band would be opening for One Direction on their worldwide Take Me Home Tour, which began February 23rd, 2013 at the O2 Arena in London. The band joined One Direction for their shows in the UK, US, New Zealand and Australia. In November of 2013, the band announced they had signed with Capitol Records.

The band’s popularity began to skyrocket while on tour with One Direction. The group started to receive millions of Twitter followers after forming a close relationship with One Direction. Their YouTube videos have amassed over 5 million views. With this, the band became teen heartthrobs and began to grow a tremendously large female fan base.

Their close ties to One Direction has been cited with sparking their rise to fame, with Niall Horan even being credited as one of the main reasons they became so famous. This lead to the band receiving media recognition and comparison to One Direction such as being titled as a “boy band.” This sparked controversy and members of 5SOS defended their genre and originality by stating that they played their own instruments and were not primarily a dance group, shaking off the title of a boy band.

While on break from the Take Me Home Tour, the band returned home to Australia and headlined their own national tour. All dates for the tour sold out within minutes due to their explosive growth in popularity. In late March 2014, their single "She Looks So Perfect" was released in UK. The song made the Top 10 in the British iTunes store on the same day of its release. The single also scored them to become only the fourth Australian band to have a UK number-one single.

The band once again joined One Direction on tour as their opening act for the We Are We Tour. The tour played shows throughout the UK, Europe, Canada and the US and was completely sold-out.

Their 3rd EP, She Looks So Perfect, was released on April 9th, 2014 and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and became the teenage fangirl’s summer 2014 anthem. The song caught the attention of many, such as singer Ed Sheeran, who covered it. The single “Don’t Stop” was released on May 9th, 2014 and also reached success as it topped the UK charts. Billboard reflected on the song, comparing its pop-punk sound to Green Day’s “She” and Blink-182’s “All the Small Things.”

The band released their self-titled debut album on June 27th, 2014 in Europe and Australia, with other releases following later. The album won the band a UK-based Kerrang! award, peaked at number one on the Billboard charts in thirteen countries and in the Top 10 in 26 countries. A live album, LIVESOS, was also released in December of 2014.

In July of 2014, the band released their third single “Amnesia,” their only song written by another artist. The single was composed by Benji and Joel Madden of the American pop-rock band Good Charlotte. The heartfelt single skyrocketed in popularity and topped the charts around the globe. The ballad also displayed the versatility of the band, switching it up from their usual pop-punk/pop-rock music.

In partnership with Capitol Records, the band recently launched their own label, Hi or Hey Records. On their website, they explained that not only would the band release their own music, but they would be working and signing other bands to the label. In 2015, the band signed the American rock band Hey Violet.

The band has also since headlined multiple tours such as their 5 Countries 5 Days European Tour (Sweden, Germany, France, Italy and Spain) in March and April of 2014; Stars, Stripes and Maple Syrup Tour (North America) in April of 2014; and the There's No Place Like Home Tour (Australia) in May of 2014.

The band is set to headline their upcoming sold-out Rock Out with Your Socks Out Tour, which will begin in Lisbon, Portugal on May 4th, 2015, and will end on September 13th, 2015 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Hey Violet is set to be the opening act for the tour.

A U.S. pre-tour started in November of 2014 and continued to February of 2015. Australian band The Veronicas were the supporting act during the pre-tour. The band also will play as the opening act for One Direction’s 2015 On the Road Again Tour.
