2017 Stanley Cup Favorites

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be looking to become the first team to win back-to-back Stanley Cups since the 1997-98 Detroit Red Wings. This is obviously a very difficult task since it hasn’t happened in nearly 20 years. The Penguins are one of the favorites to win in 2017, but there are teams that will be hot on their tail. Here are some serious Stanley Cup contenders.
Chicago Blackhawks: 6-1 Vegas Odds

The Blackhawks have won the past two odd years in 2013 and 2015 in addition to their 2010 championship. The Blackhawks will always be contenders with Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Duncan Keith, along with reigning Rookie of the Year Artemi Panarin. Defenseman Brian Campbell has returned and is no stranger to the winning ways in Chicago, as he was part of the 2010 championship team. The Blackhawks enter the season as deserving favorites.

Tampa Bay Lightning: 7-1 Odds

The Lightning have been knocking on the door for the past two seasons, as they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup two seasons ago and to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Conference Finals last season. The Lightning dealt with some serious injuries to Steven Stamkos, Anton Stralman, and Ben Bishop that derailed their Stanley Cup plans. Despite these injuries, they took the Penguins to six games and enter the season without losing any players. If the Lightning are healthy, they will be the favorite in the Eastern Conference. Tampa is also home to one of the nicest arenas in all of hockey, and when you combine the arena with the Stanley Cup aspirations, this makes Lightning tickets one of the hottest commodities in the league.

Pittsburgh Penguins: 8-1 Odds

The Penguins did not lose any player besides a third-line defenseman, but find themselves right behind the Lightning due to the expectations of a fully healthy Lightning team. The Penguins will compete with the best of them as long as they have Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Phil Kessel on three different lines.

Washington Capitals: 8-1 Odds

Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom look to finally take the Capitals over the hump and deliver their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom look to finally take the Capitals over the hump and deliver their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

The Capitals are coming off a special year in which they led the league with 120 points and recorded a franchise-high 56 wins. If Braden Holtby can give them another magical season in addition to the magnificent play of the Evgeny Kuznetsov, Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom trio, the Capitals will be one of the best teams in the league come playoff time.
