Have a Look at the Austin City Limits 2014 Lineup

Today brings us a peek at the plans for Austin City Limits, the renowned two-weekend fest in the “live music capital of the world.” If you’ve been following this year’s festival climate closely, you’ll surely notice a significant amount of overlap between lineups, and while ACL doesn’t deviate too far from this formula, the event manages to compile some pretty huge artists all in one place. Even in the crowded festival space, this one’s worth a look.

ACL takes place at the scenic Zilker Park on October 3-5 and 10-12. The two-weekend model worked nicely for the perennially sold-out Coachella this year, yet Sasquatch! in Washington was forced to cancel its second weekend due to a lack of demand. It’ll be interesting to see how ACL steps up to the challenge of maintaining interest.

Then, of course, there’s the issue of over-saturation. After the media frenzy over Coachella Weekend 1, the second week ultimately fell under the category of “enough already.” This begs the question of whether this year’s homogeneous group of festival acts will still be making headlines come October. One thing’s for sure, next year will raise many new questions for festival promoters, who will need to put in effort to diversify their event from the countless other festivals.

But enough speculation; ACL did, after all, manage to place Eminem, Pearl Jam, Outkast, and Skrillex all on one bill. Add Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Beck, and Spoon and you’ve got yourself an airtight top-end, complete with an under-card of festival vets like Phantogram, St. Vincent, and CHVRCHES. Not to mention the little guys, i.e. Sam Smith, Jagwar Ma, Real Estate and Mac DeMarco.¬†All in all, Austin City Limits remains quite viable, as long as you wait until October to get out to a festival.
