1. Jagwar Ma @ Webster Hall (7/30)

Jagwar Ma are from Australia… mate.

Why?: Jagwar Ma were destined for widespread popularity the moment they dropped Howlin, their debut LP. Contrary to the immediacy of their catchy-as-hell music, though, the growth for this act has proven slow and steady. This show at Webster Hall should be a good indication of just how far they’ve come—we’re guessing it’s going to be massive.

2. Cherry Glazerr @ Mercury Lounge (7/31)

Clementine Creevy isn’t even old enough to have a drink at her own concerts.

Why?: Cherry Glazerr possess that ineffable rawness of a band just starting out, but in many ways, that’s their appeal. The rattle and hum of their music is slathered in lo-fi punk goodness, and it’s no wonder the LA group are starting to get attention, even though two of three members are still teenagers (as in around 17 years old!).

3. Neon Indian @ Cameo Gallery (8/1) [DJ Set]

Neon Indian kicks-off August at Cameo Gallery.

Why?: Neon Indian is the psychedelic project of Alan Palomo. Though the full touring band seems to be on hiatus, Palomo still gets down with regular DJ sets. Expect Cameo to be packed and electric for this set. If the track above is any indication, Neon Indian creates jams that sound best in the summertime.

Juan Wauters (of The Beets) is a Brooklyn mainstay.

Why?: When Juan Wauters isn’t fronting The Beets, he’s playing quirky, acoustic shows across NYC. Wauters has become a staple in the local scene, and this show at Glasslands should show why.

The man behind West Coast hip-hop’s latest push.

Why?: DJ Mustard is responsible for much of the sound that’s coming out of the West Coast hip-hop scene lately, most notably, the standout album by YG earlier this year. This show at Webster should be a display of hits and general “turnt up” related activities.
