1. FKA Twigs @ Webster Hall (8/6)
Why?: Whoa. Did you watch the video above? Do you even have to ask ‘why’ anymore? Are these questions rhetorical?
FKA Twigs are a mix of Beyonce-esque pop vocals, trip-hop production, and some emphatic charisma. Get ready to hear a lot more about this act.
- Avg. Ticket Price: $75
- Trends: Demand is very high. Prices will drop inevitably.
2. Dead Stars @ Mercury Lounge (8/7)
Why?: Dead Stars are one our favorite Brooklyn upstarts. They’ve made their way up the ladder, and now they’re playing a show at the career-making trampoline that is Mercury Lounge. We’re guessing their new material is going to sound #radical in the cozy confines of the legendary NYC venue.
They’re also playing with Honduras. There’s a lot of things to like, here.
- Avg. Ticket Price: $13
- Trends: Box office tix still out there.
3. Full Moon Festival @ Governor’s Island (8/8)
Why?: The Full Moon Fest is a quietly awesome event taking place on Governor’s Island this Friday. The event takes place at night (hence the name) with some electronic-tinged performances from Delorean, Son Lux, The Knocks, and others.
Head out there and you, too, can become a beautiful frolicking hipster girl like in the trailer above… or a werewolf.
- Avg. Ticket Price: $55
- Trends: Tickets available, but will be sold out soon.
4. Modest Mouse, Brand New @ Forest Hills Stadium (8/9)
Why?: Modest Mouse have found a comfortable home alongside Long Island emo-types Brand New. Can you think of anything better on a Saturday?
Expect a lot of feelings to be felt. Perhaps, even more so than during tennis matches at Forest Hills Stadium. Music or tennis?: The heated debate continues.
- Avg. Ticket Price: $45
- Trends: Box office is sold-out. Secondary market tickets are available.
5. FREE SHOWS:
St. Vincent @ Prospect Park (8/9) – Remember when I asked if you could think of anything better on a Saturday? Wrack your brain and try to recall… OK, now that we’re on the same page—this is probably a better thing to do on a Saturday.
St. Vincent continues her spree of kicking ass and taking names. For free. Show up early, kids!
Temples, Here We Go Magic @ Pier 84 in Hudson River Park (8/7) – Temples is hot right now. Since their release of Sun Structures in February, their temperature is rising.
