If you’ve ever wondered where ESPN found Dick Vitale back in the early days of the network, it was here in Detroit. Vitale was head coach of both the Detroit Titans in college basketball also the Detroit Pistons of the NBA.
The Titans have made six NCAA Tournament appearances in school history, the most recent in 2012. The Titans have also been to the NIT seven times with three of those in the 2000s, the most recent in 2013.
Some of the Titans to go on to play in the NBA include Spencer Haywood, Ray McCallum Jr., Dave DeBusschere, Earl Cureton, and John Long. Is the next great Titan to play in the NBA on this year’s team?
Calihan Hall is the Titans home gym, opening in 1952. It holds nearly 8300 fans for home games and is a great old college basketball arena. You can enjoy your favorite concession items such as brats, Polish sausage, nachos, pretzels, popcorn and bosco sticks (cheese and pepperoni), while watching the great Horizon League action.
Home games this season will include Central State, UM Dearborn, Northeastern St, UCF, Youngstown St, Cleveland St, Chicago, Valparaiso and more.
Do not miss out on the great college basketball action from Calihan Hall where every seat is close to the action, the food is great and the atmosphere is what you want for a great sporting event.
