The George Washington Colonials have been to the NCAA Tournament 11 times in their school history. The most recent is 2014. Their best showing in the Big Dance was in 1993 when they went to the Sweet Sixteen. GW has also been to five NITs including last year. The Colonials were also in the CBI in 2010.
The most notable Colonial player was Red Auerbach who turned the Boston Celtics into a dynasty in the 1960s as their coach. The most notable former Colonial besides Auerbach would be Mike Brey, the current head coach of Notre Dame.
The Colonials play in the Charles E Smith Center, which opened in 1975. It holds 5,000 Colonials fans for home games. The Charles E Smith Center is known for its loud crowds giving it a great atmosphere for college basketball. You can enjoy your favorite concession items while watching a great game. Every seat has a fantastic view of the court at the Smith Center.
The Colonials play in the A-10 Conference with teams such as Dayton, Davidson, Duquesne, Fordham, George Mason, LaSalle, UMass, Rhode Island, Richmond, St Joseph’s, St. Bonaventure, St. Louis and VCU. Those teams will be trying to win the A-10 automatic bid to the Big Dance this season.
