College Stadium Review: Colonial Life Arena

The South Carolina Gamecocks have been to the NCAA Tournament eight times in school history. Between 1971 and 1973, the Gamecocks made it to the Sweet Sixteen three straight times.  Their most recent appearance was in 2004. Can they get back to the Big Dance this season? The “Garnet Army” student section all wear camo t-shirts in Gamecocks colors and yells throughout the game, giving USC a home court advantage.

 

South Carolina has been to the NIT 10 times. They won it in back to back seasons in 2005 and 2006. They also made it to the Championship Game in 2002. Altogether, the Gamecocks have been to Madison Square Garden three times and came one game short four other times.
Some of the greats to play for the Gamecocks include Alex English, Renaldo Balkman and B. J. McKie.
Colonial Life Arena opened in 202 and seats 18,000 Gamecocks fans. The team rode the wave of excitement to an upset of #17 ranked Kentucky 72-67 on 3/1/2014.
The Gamecocks are part of the SEC, which is perhaps the best in all of college sports. Teams such as Kentucky, Florida, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia, Missouri, Texas A&M, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss and Mississippi State regularly visit the Colonial Life Arena.
