College Stadium Review: Crisler Center

The Michigan Wolverines are one of college basketball’s best programs. The Wolverines may be more known as a “football school” as they have won more games than any program in history, but they are also a great basketball school too. Michigan has been to the NCAA Tournament 25 times (although four were vacated) , the Sweet Sixteen 13 times (one vacated), the Elite Eight 12 times (one vacated), the Final Four seven times (two vacated) and the National Championship game six times (two vacated).

Crisler Center

The Crisler Center recently underwent a 100 million dollar renovation, so even though this is an old building, it seems brand new.

In 1989, the Wolverines won the NCAA Tournament with a new coach in Steve Fisher, who took over when their coach announced he was leaving to take another job next season. Then AD and legendary football coach Bo Schembechler famously told that coach to pack his bags stating “a Michigan man will coach Michigan.” It became a rallying cry for the Wolverines who won the Tournament, beating Seton Hall in the Championship Game on a pair of Rumeal Robinson free throws.
Some of the greats to play for the Wolverines include Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Juwon Howard, Cazzie Russell, Glen Rice, Rudy Tomjanovich, Trey Burke, Robert Traylor, Roy Tarpley, Nik Stauskas, Mitch McGary and many many more.
The Crisler Center opened in 1967 and holds nearly 14,000 fans for the basketball games. Every seat is a great one with a fantastic view of the court. When you walk inside and see the trophies in the Trophy cases which include football trophies such as Charles Woodson’s Heisman and the Little Brown Jug, you know you are in for a real treat. Billed as “The House that Cazzie Russell Built,” the Crisler Center has a great college basketball atmosphere. The fans and students keep the place buzzing and that includes the Alumni Band.
The Crisler Center recently underwent a 100 million dollar renovation, so even though this is an old building, it seems brand new. The concession selections are excellent at Crisler Center. You can watch a great game while enjoying brats, chicken fingers, Polish sausages, cheese ravioli, Philly Cheese Steak and much more while you watch the Big Ten basketball action.
The Big Ten is perhaps the best conference in college basketball. When the Final Four is set, you can almost be assured there will be a Bug Ten participant. Last year and the year before that team was Wisconsin. In 2013 it was Michigan who made a run all the way to the National Championship Game.
The Big Ten includes great teams such as Michigan State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Maryland, Ohio State, Purdue, Iowa, Nebraska, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois, Penn State and Rutgers. With great teams like these coming to Crisler Center this season, you will be assured of a fantastic basketball experience.
Michigan has many great rivals. Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Indiana, all view Michigan as a huge game they circle on the calendar. That is because to beat Michigan means you are at the top of the mountain, no matter the sport. You do not want to miss out on any of the Michigan basketball season at Crisler Center. Bring the kids out and have an awesome time.
