Texas has been involved in some of he greatest games in NCAA Tournament history, such as in 2006 Sweet Sixteen game against West Virginia, won with a buzzer beating three pointer. That was followed by an overtime game in the Elite Eight against LSU which the Longhorns lost. When the Longhorns are at their best, the NCAA Tournament is better for it
The Longhorns have been to the NCAA Tournament 32 times in their storied history. They have been to the Sweet Sixteen 10 times, the most recent in 2008. The Longhorns have been to the Elite Eight seven times, and the Final Four three times (1943, 1947 and 2003). Their all-time NCAA Tournament record is 35-35. Will they make another deep run in 2016? New head coach Shaka Smart is no stranger to deep NCAA runs.
The Longhorns have been to the NIT four times (1948, 1978, 1980 and 1986). In 1978, the Longhorns were the tournament champions. The Longhorns went to the CBI in 2013, losing to Houston in the first round.
The Frank Erwin Center opened in 1977 and seats over 16,000 fans. You will enjoy every moment of your game day experience both in and around the Erwin Center. When you go to a Longhorns game, you’ll want to make a day out of it. Austin is known for its great entertainment and there are no shortages of great places to eat and drink near the Erwin Center. Inside the Erwin Center there are no bad seats and you will enjoy all your favorite concession items inside such as pizza, nachos, hot dogs, fajitas, and beer! The atmosphere for the game is as great as any you will find at a college venue. Longhorn fans are about as passionate as any fan base in the nation and few fan bases know how to party like Texas fans. From the time the players are introduced until the game is over it is a non-stop raucous environment.
The Longhorns are part of the Big 12 Conference which means some of the best teams in college basketball will be coming in to the Erwin Center this season. Teams such as Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Baylor and Texas Tech will be on the Longhorns schedule. Many of these teams will be in the NCAA Tournament at the end of the season.
