Texas has been involved in some of he greatest games in NCAA Tournament history, such as in 2006 Sweet Sixteen game against West Virginia, won with a buzzer beating three pointer. The Longhorns have been to the NCAA Tournament 32 times in their storied history. They have been to the Sweet Sixteen 10 times, the most recent in 2008. The Longhorns have been to the Elite Eight seven times, and the Final Four three times (1943, 1947 and 2003). Their all-time NCAA Tournament record is 35-35. Will they make another deep run in 2016? New head coach Shaka Smart is no stranger to deep NCAA runs.
The Longhorns have been to the NIT four times (1948, 1978, 1980 and 1986). In 1978, the Longhorns were the tournament champions. The Longhorns went to the CBI in 2013, losing to Houston in the first round.

The Longhorns are part of the Big 12 Conference which means some of the best teams in college basketball will be coming in to the Erwin Center this season. Teams such as Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Baylor and Texas Tech will be on the Longhorns schedule. Many of these teams will be in the NCAA Tournament at the end of the season.
