The Niagara Purple Eagles have been to the NCAA Tournament three times (1970, 2005 and 2007). In 1970 they went to the Sweet Sixteen. They have been to the NIT 14 times in school history. They made it to the championship game in 1972, the semifinals in 1954 and the quarterfinals four other times. Calvin Murphy, Boo Ellis, Larry Costello and Joe Smyth are among the Purple Eagles to play in the NBA. Who will be the next? Come watch them play and see.
The Purple Eagles play home games at the Gallagher Center. It opened in 1949 and seats 2400 fans. Every seat is close to the court and you can enjoy all your favorite concession items with numerous options if you go downstairs to where the students hang out. When you sit in your seat you will notice the many NCAA and NIT banners as well as ones honoring NBA legends such as Murphy and Hubie Brown, who played at Niagara. It is a nice home court advantage for the Eagles and a very fan friendly gym.
Niagara is part of the MAAC which includes Canisius, Fairfield, Iona, Manhattan, Marist, Monmouth, Quinnipiac, Rider, St. Peter’s and Siena. These schools will be looking to win the MAAC Tournament to get to the NCAA Tournament, but also they will be trying to win the regular season to get a postseason berth.
You will not want to miss any of the great MAAC action this season. Bring the whole family to the games at Gallagher Center.
