College Stadium Review: Hanner Fieldhouse

The Georgia Southern Eagles basketball team has been to the NCAA Tournament three times in their school history (1983, 1987 and 1992). The Eagles have also been to the NIT three times in school history (1988,1989 and 2006).

Georgia Southern’s Hanner Fieldhouse

Georgia Southern has been playing their home games at Hanner Fieldhouse since it opened in 1969. It holds over 4000 fans for home games, but with the students keeping the noise level up it seems like many more.

You can enjoy your favorite concession items such as burgers, hot dogs, popcorn, pizza and Coke products while watching the action from a seat close to the action. That is because every seat is close to the court.

The Eagles are part of the Sun Belt Conference which includes schools such as Arkansas State,  Appalachian State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Georgia State, UL-Monroe, UL-Lafayette, South Alabama, Texas State, UT-Arlington and Troy.

These schools are all competing for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. They are also competing for an automatic bid to the NIT for winning the regular season championship, so there is a lot riding on the Eagles home games at Hanner Fieldhouse.

After the game, you will want to check out some of the night life around campus including Statesboro’s oldest bar in Dingus McGee’s.
