College Stadium Review: Icardo Center

The CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners are relatively new to D-I basketball, but they are no strangers to NCAA Tournament success at the D-II level. They were the NCAA D-II Tournament Champions three times in the 1990s and the runner-up one other time. They went to eight Final Fours between 1982 and 1997, the year they won their third title in a five year stretch.

The students and pep band give the Roadrunners game the college basketball atmosphere you are looking for when going to a game.

They moved up into D-I in 2007 and are still looking for their first trip to the Big Dance, otherwise known as the NCAA Tournament. They play their home games at the Icardo Center which opened in 1989 and holds 3800 Roadrunners fans. This intimate setting for college basketball means that no matter where you sit you have a great view of the court.

The students and pep band give the Roadrunners game the college basketball atmosphere you are looking for when going to a game. The Roadrunners are part of the WAC Conference which is awarded an NCAA Tournament berth to its Tournament champion. The teams competing for this honor include Utah Valley, Seattle, New Mexico State, Missouri Kansas City, Chicago State, and Grand Canyon U. New Mexico State has won the last four WAC Tournaments.

This year’s home schedule includes game against Idaho, Northern Arizona, Dartmouth, Portland State, and the New Mexico State game on Jan 23 among many others. Don’t miss out on Roadrunners basketball in 2015-16. This could be the year they get to the Big Dance!
