The Jacksonville Dolphins basketball team has been to the NCAA Tournament five times in school history. Four of those trips were in the 1970s and the other in 1986. In 1970, the Dolphins went all the way to the NCAA Championship Game where they lost to UCLA 80-69. That team beat Kentucky 106-100 in the Elite Eight and St. Bonaventure in the National Semifinals 91-83.
The Dolphins have been to the NIT six times, including 2009 and 2010. In 2011, Jacksonville made it to the second round of the CIT, their most recent postseason appearance.
Some of the greats to have played for the Dolphins include Artis Gilmore, Otis Smith and Dee Brown. They play their home games at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena which opened in 2003. It holds over 14,000 fans and is also the home of the Jacksonville Sharks of the Arena Football League.
The Veterans Memorial Arena has also hosted several NCAA Tournament games, including the 2015 Georgia State upset over Baylor.
Every seat in this arena is comfortable with a great view of the court. You can enjoy your favorite concession items such as hot dogs, popcorn, nachos and sodas while viewing a great college basketball game.
The Dolphins home schedule this season includes games with Florida A&M, Marist, Bethune Cookman, Kennesaw State, Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast, Lipscomb, UNF, and more.
