The Loyola Ramblers basketball team has been to the NCAA Tournament five times in school history. They have been to the Sweet Sixteen three times (1963,1964 and 1985) and won the National Championship in 1963. The Ramblers have been to the NIT four times, advancing to the championship game twice. In 2015, the Ramblers were the champions of the CBI in the school’s first appearance in that postseason tournament.
Some of Loyola’s great players include LaRue Martin, Larry Knight, Alfredrick Hughes, Andre Moore, Wayne Sappleton, Les Hunter, Jerry Harkness, Jack Kerris and many more NBA Draft picks.
The Joseph J. Gentile Center opened in 1996 and seats over 5000 Ramblers fans. The Ramblers have a lot of students in the crowd but also a lot of locals who just love college basketball. They bring the families along to enjoy the game and eat their favorite concession items such as hot dogs, pretzels, nachos, chocolate chip cookies, Pepsi products and more.
The Ramblers are part of the Missouri Valley Conference, which includes teams such as Bradley, Drake, Evansville, Illinois State, Indiana State, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and Wichita State.
With those great teams coming into play the Ramblers at Joseph J. Gentile Center this season, you will not want to miss out on any of the excitement. Bring the kids to some Ramblers games this season and enjoy a great college basketball experience.
