College Stadium Review: Leavey Center

The Broncos of Santa Clara have a great basketball tradition. They have been to the NCAA Tournament 11 times in school history. In 1952, the Broncos played in the Final Four. The next season they were back in the Elite Eight.  In 1954, they made it to the Elite Eight again. Three more times after those three straight Elite Eights, the Broncos made the Sweet Sixteen.

Leavey Center

The Leavey Center is one of the loudest arenas in the West Coast Conference

In 1993, the Broncos pulled off a huge upset in the Round of 64, knocking off Arizona 64-61.  It was the second time a #15 beat a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The star of the team in those days was a point guard named Steve Nash who went on to a Hall of Fame career in the NBA.
The Leavey Center opened in 1975 and seats 4500 fans. Everywhere you sit you will be close to the floor, however, you will want to bring a seat cushion because the Leavey Center is old school basketball on plastic covered bleachers. You will enjoy a great game while also enjoying all your favorite concession items such as nachos, burgers, pretzels, popcorn and much more.
The Leavey Center is one of the loudest arenas in the West Coast Conference as the fans love their Broncos and are not afraid to let the opposition know it. The Leavey Center is a tough road win.
The Broncos are part of the West Coast Conference, which includes some of college basketball’s best teams like BYU, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Pacific, Pepperdine, Portland, St. Mary’s, San Diego and San Francisco.  These teams will be trying to get to the NCAA Tournament by winning the WWC Tournament or by winning as many regular season games as possible to put them in a position for an at-large bid.  Typically, the WCC gets two to three at-large bids.
You will not want to miss out on Santa Clara basketball this season. Bring the kids out to experience Broncos basketball.
