College Stadium Review: M. M. Roberts Stadium

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles have had a very good football tradition. Brett Favre and Ray Guy, two Hall of Fame players who might be the best to ever play the positions of quarterback and punter both played their college football at M. M. Roberts Stadium for the Eagles. USM has pulled off wins over Bear Bryant and Bobby Bowden, won two national championships in what was known as the “College Division” in 1958 and 1962, and won eight conference championships.

The Golden Eagles have played at M. M. Roberts Stadium since 1932. The stadium holds 36,000 Golden Eagles fans which makes it one of the largest home stadiums in Conference USA. The Eagles have a long winning tradition, once having 18 consecutive winning seasons and five C-USA championships during that run. The Eagles have been to 22 bowl games and have won 10.
M. Roberts is the place to be on Saturdays in the fall. It is conveniently located right off US Highway 49 making it easy to get to. When you arrive you will find Eagle fans tailgating all around the campus. Be sure not to miss the Eagle Walk as fans cheer on the players as they arrive.

The Eagles are traditionally one of the best programs of C-USA. This means they will be trying to earn a berth in one of the bowls that C-USA has a tie-in. These bowls are in some of the best locations of any conference including the Arizona Bowl in Tucson, the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, the New Orleans Bowl at the Superdome, the Miami Beach Bowl at Marlins Park, the St. Petersburg Bowl at Tropicana Field, the Bahamas Bowl and the Heart of Dallas Bowl at the Cotton Bowl. The bowl destinations and the possibility of hosting the C-USA Championship Game will give the Eagles a lot of incentive to win games this season.
The Eagles games at M. M. Roberts Stadium in 2015 include a huge season opener with Mississippi State on 9/5 which will be nationally televised, Austin Peay on 9/12, North Texas on 10/3, Texas San Antonio on 10/17, Texas El Paso on 10/31, and Old Dominion on 11/21. You will need to order your tickets for the Mississippi State game now as this one will sell out quickly.  This is the biggest game at M. M. Roberts Stadium in a long time, maybe ever.
So enjoy your favorite concession items such as pizza, nachos, burgers, hot dogs, popcorn, and sodas while you watch the Golden Eagles from great seats. The best seats in the house may be in the south end zone. There you get to sit in chairs with backs and arm rests just underneath the luxury boxes. Most of the seats are on the sides where there are two levels on each side. Be sure to bring a seat cushion for these seats as they are aluminum benches. The view from these seats is great as they are close to the field.
When in Hattiesburg, the place to go after the game for a good burger is Mugshots. Try the Mugshot Challenge while you are there if you dare!
Do not miss out on any of the great C-USA action at M. M. Roberts Stadium this season.
