The Nevada Wolf Pack plays football at picturesque Mackay Stadium in Reno, Nevada. The 30,000 seat venue opened in 1966 and has seen the program grow up into one of college football’s top programs. Nevada has had two major contributions to football in recent seasons that can be seen all the way to the highest levels, the Pistol Offense and quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
The Pistol run by Coach Chris Ault in the early 2000s is a cross between the traditional Shotgun and the under the center snap. You will see many teams running this offense while watching football this season and it originated at Nevada. The San Francisco 49ers use it and their quarterback, Colin Kaepernick played for the Wolf Pack.
The Wolf Pack plays in the Mountain West Conference West Division. The MWC has been one of the best conferences in the nation outside of the “Power Five” of the FBS. Several MWC schools have played in and won some of the major bowls in the past few seasons such as Utah, who won the Fiesta Bowl and the Sugar Bowl between 2004 and 2008 and parlayed that into a PAC 12 membership, and Boise State who won the Fiesta Bowl in 2006.
Mackay Stadium is the place to be in the fall for MWC football as the Wolf Pack tries to become the next team to come out of the conference to snatch a major bowl win.
