The Stanford Cardinal is one of the country’s best sports programs. One of its most successful teams is the basketball team. The Cardinal has appeared in 17 NCAA Tournaments in school history and have won 23 games. Their best showings have been in 1942 when the Cardinal won the National Championship, 1998 when they advanced to the Final Four, and 2001 when Stanford made the Elite Eight. The Cardinal has also been to the Sweet Sixteen three other times, the most recent in 2014.
Stanford has been to the NIT eight times and have an overall record of 18-5. They won the NIT three times (1991, 2012 and 2015). They Cardinal has been to Madison Square Garden three times and are a perfect 6-0 in those three trips. Last season they beat Miami 66-64 in overtime to take the championship. In 2009, the Cardinal made an appearance in the CBI and advanced to the semifinals.
Some of the great players to play for Stanford include Brook Lopez, Robin Lopez, Jason Collins, Jerron Collins, Todd Lichti, Landry Fields, Josh Childress, Adam Keefe, Brevin Knight, Mark Madsen and many more.
The Maples Pavilion, the home of Stanford Basketball, opened in 1969 and seats over 7000 fans. Maples Pavilion has no bad seats in the house. The concessions menu is as impressive as you will find in college basketball with selections such as Italian sausages, brats, chicken tenders, burgers, hot dogs, garlic fries, pizza, wraps, salads, popcorn and more. You will have a great view of the court and some great eats ans you watch the Cardinal games.
The atmosphere at Maples Pavilion is as great as you will find in college basketball. The students section keeps the noise level high, especially for the rivalry games such as Cal, Oregon, UCLA and Arizona. Maples is a small venue for a Power Five school, but it can get quite loud.
Stanford is a part of the PAC 12 which is one of the best conferences in college basketball. Teams such as UCLA, Arizona, Utah, California, Washington, Washington State, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State and USC make up the PAC 12. With a home schedule including these teams, you’ll want to get to as many Stanford games as you can this season.
These teams will be trying to win the PAC 12 Tournament to qualify automatically for the NCAA Tournament, but will also be trying to win as many games as they can to get an at-large bid in case they don’t. History tells us that about half of them will be successful, so you have a chance to see many NCAA Tournament teams during the season. One or two of them could find their way to the Elite Eight or further.
You do not want to miss out on Stanford Cardinal basketball in 2016. Bring the whole family with you for a great college basketball experience.
