College Stadium Review: McKale Center

When you think college basketball, a few programs immediately come to mind. Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, UCLA, Indiana, Florida, Michigan State, and Arizona are at the top of the list among the elite basketball programs in the country. What all of these schools have in common is the NCAA Tournament Championships, Final Fours, star NBA players and rabid fan bases that make their games something the college basketball fan must experience. They all boast of great arenas to watch the games as well as fantastic traditions too.

The McKale Center opened in 1973 and it holds over 14,000 Wildcats fans for home games

Arizona Wildcats basketball is among the elite. They have won the NCAA Tournament in 1997, been to the National championship game in 2001, been to the Final Four four times since 1988, been to the Elite Eight 11 times including the most recent two seasons and the Sweet Sixteen 18 times with the first coming in 1951.

One of the things all of these programs have in common is a legendary coach and Arizona has one of those in Lute Olsen. The court at the McKale Center is named for him and his wife, who for decades was sort of a “team mom” to all of the players. Olsen took over in 1983 and under his watch, the program took off. Before Olsen arrived, the Wildcats had been to only one Elite Eight and two Sweet Sixteens.

Arizona has had many stars go on to the NBA including Steve Kerr, who just coached the Golden State Warriors to the NBA Championship last season, Sean Elliott, Mike Bibby, Jud Buechler, Channing Frye, Luke Walton, Andre Iguodala, Aaron Gordon, Nick Johnson and more. Who are the next group of NBA stars at Arizona? Come to the McKale Center and find out.

The McKale Center opened in 1973 and it holds over 14,000 Wildcats fans for home games. The ZonaZoo is the student section behind the north end basket where the opponents shoot during the second half. They do their best to be as loud and intimidating as possible to help the Wildcats win. The McKale Center is small enough that every seat has a great view of the court, but with the new LED video boards and other amenities, it is a lot like an NBA venue. The entertainment here is top notch.

You can enjoy the game with your favorite concession items such as pizza, nachos popcorn, quesadillas, churros, and more while sitting in a great seat. The games will be against some of the best teams in college basketball.

The Wildcats play in the PAC 12 Conference which means that they will face some of college basketball’s best programs at the McKale Center. This season’s home game includes game with Pacific, Bradley, Boise State, Fresno State, Missouri, UNLV, Washington, Washington State, Oregon, UCLA , Arizona State and more.

With a home schedule like this, you will not want to miss out on any of the action. Buy tickets today for Arizona Wildcats basketball at the McKale Center and experience college basketball at its top level. You could be watching this year’s National Champion.
