College Stadium Review: Minges Coliseum

The East Carolina Pirates basketball team has been to two NCAA Tournaments in school history, once in 1972 and again in 1993. The Pirates are just about due for a return trip to the Big Dance. The Pirates have been to the CIT three times in recent years, going in 2011, 2013 and 2014.  The Pirates were the CIT Champions in 2013 after they beat Weber State in the championship game 77-74.

Minges Coliseum

The Pirates are part of the American Athletic Conference which means teams such as Memphis, Cincinnati, Temple, UCF, USF, Tulsa and SMU will be making visits this season.

The Pirates play their home games at Minges Coliseum, which opened in 1967 and seats 8000 Pirates fans.  These fans are very boisterous, especially the students, who love to taunt the opposition. It is said the ECU is the number one party school in the nation and that all others are just pretenders.  The Pirates fans also take their sports seriously too.
With these two, a great college basketball atmosphere is almost assured no matter the opponent.  You can enjoy many great bars and restaurants near campus such as the Pirate’s Den and then at the Minges Arena watch the game from a great seat. You can enjoy great concession items such as nachos, hot dogs, pizza, pretzels and candy while watching the action on the court.
