The Pitt Panthers basketball has been to the NCAA Tournament 25 times in their history. They have been to the Sweet Sixteen seven times, the Elite Eight three times, and the Final Four once (1941). They have also been to the NIT nine times. They have made it to the quarterfinals twice. The Panthers have made one appearance in the CBI, winning the tournament in 2012.
Pitt was one of the teams in the old Big East that made it college basketball’s best conferences. But with all of the conference shifting to give school’s football programs the best shot at the college football playoffs, the Panthers are now part of the ACC which may be the best conference in college basketball today. North Carolina, Duke, Boston College, Syracuse, Louisville, Wake Forest, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Miami, Florida State, Clemson and NC State make up the ACC. With these teams coming in to Petersen Events Center either this season or next, you will want to get to as many Pitt games as possible.
The Petersen Events Center opened in 2002 and seats 12,500 rabid college basketball fans for the Panthers games. Every seat in the house is a great one as the Panthers try to get to the NCAA Tournament. The sets all have a fantastic view of the court, and you will enjoy a concessions menu second to none while watching the game.
The food at Petersen Events Center includes selections such as pasta subs, build your own salad, kielbasa, Italian sausage, ice cream and much more. You will not go hungry at the Panthers games. The arena is loud and proud with the student section, known as the “Oakland Zoo” leading the way. They sit near the floor and keep it as loud as any arena in college basketball.
Some of the great players to play for Pitt over the years include Jerome Lane, Levance Fields, Aaron Gray, Charles Smith, DeJuan Blair, Charles Smith, Lamar Patterson, Steven Adams and many more. Will there be more NBA players on this year’s roster? Probably so. Come out to Petersen Events Center and see them now.
Coach Jamie Dixon is one of college basketball’s best young coaches. He is often mentioned for the big jobs when they become available, but he so far has chosen to stay at Pitt to make them one of the ACC’s elite. Former Pitt coach Ben Howland moved on after a successful run to coach the UCLA Bruins where he went to three straight Final Fours.
You do not want to miss out on any of the fantastic ACC basketball action at the Petersen Events Center this season. Somebody on this schedule will likely make the Final Four, maybe more than one. Bring the whole family out to one of college basketball’s best venues. Order your tickets today!
