The Long Island Blackbirds have been to the NCAA Tournament six times in their school history, the most recent in 2013. So far, they have not won a game at the Big Dance. The Blackbirds have made the NIT 10 times in school history, including two tournament championships (1939 and 1941).
The Blackbirds play their home games at the Steinburg Wellness Center on campus, which opened in 2005 and seats 2,500 fans. Every seat is close to the court so you will be guaranteed a great view of the court. The Wellness Center has brand new feel to it, but it also has that old school feel as well with bench seating and a balcony style concourse. You will enjoy your favorite concession items such as hot dogs, popcorn and candy while taking in the great college basketball action.
LIU plays in the Northeast Conference, which includes teams such as Bryant, Central Connecticut, Fairleigh Dickinson, Mount St. Mary’s, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, St. Francis NY, St. Francis PA, and Wagner.
You will not want to miss the exciting NEC action this season as these schools try to win the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the NEC Tournament. They will also be trying to gain a postseason bid by winning the regular season conference championship.
