UNLV has been to the NIT 10 times as well. They have made it to Madison Square Garden once (1980) when they advanced to the semifinals.
Some of the great players to come out of UNLV include Reggie Theus, Sidney Green, Larry Johnson, Stacey Augmon, Armon Gilliam, Greg Anthony, Shawn Marion, Isaiah Rider, Anthony Bennett and many more. Are the next great NBA players on this year’s roster? Come out to the Thomas & Mack Center and find out.
The Thomas & Mack Center opened in 1983 and seats nearly 19,000 fans. Las Vegas has no shortage of things to do as we all know, but even so, fans flock to this place to watch college basketball on a regular basis. For sports fans in a city with no professional teams, UNLV basketball is the biggest game in town. You will want to be a part of it this season.
The UNLV fan base is among the best and loudest you’ll find anywhere. They are a proud bunch and they show their support. The students show up ready to yell their team onto victory and are trying to get them back to the NCAA Tournament on their energy. The atmosphere for Runnin Rebels basketball is as great as you’ll find in college basketball.
UNLV is part of the Mountain West Conference, one of the best in college basketball. Teams such as Air Force, Boise State, Fresno State, Colorado State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, Utah State, and Wyoming will be coming to the Thomas & Mack Center this season, competing for the MWC championship.
The winner of the MWC Tournament will receive an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. However, it is unlikely that team will be the only MWC team to make it into the Big Dance. There will likely be two to three at-large bids handed out to the MWC teams on Selection Sunday. So you’ll be watching some NCAA Tournament teams come into the Thomas & Mack Center this season. Will the Rebels be one? They certainly have the talent.
The Thomas & Mack Center is but a few miles away from the Las Vegas Strip. So come out to the games early and make a whole night of it after the game. Where else can you have this much fun after the game but in Vegas? You don’t want to miss out on any of the UNLV basketball action this season.
