Some of the great players to play at Ohio State include Jerry Lucas, Jim Jackson, Clark Kellogg, Eva Turner, Mike Conley, Greg Oden, John Havlicek, Jared Sullinger, Herb Williams, Michael Redd and many more. Legendary coach Bob Knight also played for Ohio State.
The Buckeyes have won the Big Ten Tournament four times since 2007. They have been to the Final Four twice since then as well. Under current head coach Thad Matta, the Buckeyes are always in contention, not only for Big Ten titles but also the National Championship.
The Buckeyes play their home games in the Value City Arena, which opened in 1998 and holds nearly 20,000 fans. This is an arena with both college tradition and also NBA amenities. All the seats have a great view of the court and all of them are comfortable with chair backs and arm rests. The Value City Arena is a history lesson in Ohio State athletics with all of the displays on the concourse and the banners hanging from the ceiling commemorating all of the championships and great players to play for the Buckeyes. There are few athletic programs as successful as Ohio State and basketball is one of their best sports.
The Buckeyes play in the Big Ten Conference, which is perhaps the best in all of college basketball. Michigan State, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Purdue, Penn State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Northwestern, Maryland, Rutgers and Iowa make up the Big Ten and many of these teams will visit the Buckeyes this season at the Value City Arena. All of these schools are big rivals, but Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana and Wisconsin are especially intense. If you can get to a game at Value City Arena to watch one of these teams do not pass it up.
These teams will all be trying to win the Big Ten Tournament to gain the automatic NCAA bid and the very high seeding that will go along with it. But these teams will also be fighting for the regular season championship, which will also be assured a very high seed in the Big Dance. Typically about half the teams in the Big Ten advance to the NCAA Tournament, so each conference game is a huge one. The action at the Value City Arena is as intense as it gets in college basketball.
There are very few arenas in college basketball that can compare to going to Value City Arena to watch the Buckeyes play. Bring your friends and family out for one of college basketball’s greatest experiences. If you have a chance get out to a game, make sure you don’t miss it.
