Gathering of the Vibes Festival

The Gathering of the Vibes Festival begins Thursday July 25 and runs through Sunday July 28 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, CT. The festival is a music, arts, and camping happening with about twenty thousand people attending annually. This year marks the 18th celebration of the festival and it’s ninth time at Seaside Park.
The origin of Vibes goes back to 1996 when, after Jerry Garcia’s death, Ken Hays gathered friends to put together a memorial party. It was simply meant to be a place for Grateful Dead fans to reunite and remember with music. The initial event was called “Deadhead Heaven – A Gathering of the Tribe” which evolved into “Gathering of the Vibes”. The event has carried on every year since the first, growing and changing naturally. No longer just a collecting point for Dead Heads, the festival has developed it’s own community nick-named the Vibe Tribe.

Aside from music the Gathering of the Vibes has a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility. The aim is to use the musical community as an influence on the greater population. The Festival itself practices what it preaches by using recycling, collecting compostable products, and donating unused food and clothing. Mass transit options are provided and solar powered phone charging will be available.
The main focus of the event is of course still music and there will be a lot of it. Four days will be packed with performers and there will even be a Disco Friday and Saturday night for those who don’t want the party to stop. This festival may have a slightly older following than festivals like Coachella or Bonnaroo. It’s a kinder friendlier festival, more relaxing and less head banging.
