Last night’s Tibet House Benefit Concert featured an impressive list of performers. The bill included Robert Randolph, Philip Glass, Patti Smith and more. The highlights of the evening, however, were a couple of star-studded live collaborations.
Iggy Pop and New Order play Joy Division
Having taken time off from the Stooges, Iggy Pop appeared last night with post-punk legends New Order. The Stooges have been experimenting with other vocalists in Iggy’s absence, so it seems fitting that Iggy provided vocals for what turned out to be a Joy Division pseudo-reunion.
The other big collaboration of the evening found Sufjan Stevens teaming up with the National. Stevens has worked with the National on several of their albums, but last night found the multi-faceted singer-songwriter on stage with the indie rock veterans. As a collective, the group performed “Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks,” “This Is The Last Time” and “I Need My Girl.”
