J. Cole had one heck of a birthday party last night. After announcing a new deal with Interscope Records, the rapper–who was turning 29–took the stage at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Whenever a hip-hop artist stops in New York City, it’s safe to assume there will be a special guest or two. But the fans in attendance last night got more than they could have bargained for.
Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z Join J.Cole at MSG
Fresh off his controversial Grammy snub, Kendrick Lamar came out to perform his verse on Cole’s “Forbidden Fruit.” Clad in a fur-hooded parka, the Compton emcee also treated the crowd to a performance of his song, “Backseat Freestyle.”
Later, as J. Cole reminisced on his signing with Roc Nation, the DJ began playing the opening notes of Jay Z‘s “Public Service Announcement.” Sure enough, Hov emerged on stage to perform that track and “Fuckwithmeyouknowigotit.” Between the two songs, Jay Z gifted J. Cole with his original Roc-A-Fella chain.
We can’t wait see how J. Cole celebrates his 30th. Videos of Kendrick Lamar and Jay Z can be seen below.
