The art of beef is a time honored tradition among musicians. Though it is most commonly practiced among hip-hop artists these days, there is a deep history of rock bands taking shots at each other. Apparently, the latest case of rock and roll beef stems from a case of post-Grammy sour grapes.
Queens of the Stone Age vs. Imagine Dragons, Grammys
During a recent performance in Houston, Queens Of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme took a minute to voice his displeasure with the Grammys, and Grammy-winning rock band Imagine Dragons. Prior to playing “I Appear Missing,” Homme jokingly announced, “This next song is by Imagine Dragons.”
As the crowd started to boo, Homme followed up with, “Fuck everything. Fuck the man. Fuck Imagine Dragons and fuck the Grammys.”
It is not too difficult to see where this ire is coming from. Imagine Dragons–clearly a favorite of this year’s Grammy committee–beat out QOTSA for “Best Rock Performance.” Adding insult to injury, Homme’s super-jam with Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor and Lindsey Buckingham was cut short at the end of the telecast in order to show some advertisements.
Reznor offered similar sentiments to the Grammys the night of the event when he tweeted, “Music’s biggest night… to be disrespected. A heartfelt FUCK YOU guys.”
No word yet from the Imagine Dragons camp, but it is hard to imagine that the major-label product will offer any kind of rebuttal.
Homme’s rant starts around the 0:29 mark:
