Pro Sports Stadium Review: TD Garden

TD Garden, which opened for business, that is, the business of sports, on September 30, 1995, is home for two tenants, both well known in their respective sport.
The co-tenants have won numerous championships and are adored and idolized by countless fans. The legendary Boston Celtics, a founding member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) are one of the tenants. They play their home games on polished hardwood floors.
The other tenant, another team with a history of success and millions of loyal fans, is the Boston Bruins. This team is, like the Celtics, a founding member in its league which is, of course, the National Hockey League.
The arena that houses these two top level squads has been known by several other names. The year it opened, 1995, it was called Fleet Center. That name remained constant for ten years until 2005. It then became TD Banknorth Garden until 2009 when its current name was chosen to appear on the outside of the building.
TD Garden is only now fifteen years old. When it was built, its designers planned for it to be a multi-purpose venue which would enable different teams to play there to crowds of varying sizes.
Today, hockey can accommodate 17,565 fans while basketball can be played in front of a somewhat larger audience of 18,624 fans. Pro Wrestling (World Wrestling Entertainment, the WWE) entertains here frequently before crowds that reach 19,025 in number.
Of course, concerts occur often and are an income stream for the arena all by themselves. R.E.M. was first to appear in the arena on October 2, 1995. Since then, many, many top groups and individuals have entertained appreciative audiences.

When it comes to sports, TD Garden has been a coveted location. The arena hosted NCAA division I men’s basketball in 1999 and again in 2003.
Sweet sixteen and elite eight tournament games were played at the arena in 2009 and 2016. In 2013, fans flocked to td garden to watch and enjoy the U.S. figure skating championship.
The Disney on ice show has entertained a large audience in this building, as has the circus. Comedy shows starring Chris Rock, Tim Allen, Dennis Leary, Louis C.K. and others have “left them laughing.”
In addition, WrestleMania 14 was just one sensational sports entertainment event that “rocked the house.” The WWE has also held numerous Monday night raw and Smackdown shows in td garden.
As one of the most popular sports and entertainment arenas in the United States and Canada, it seems obvious that this venue will continue to “fill the house” for all kinds of events now … and in the future.
Clearly, these are good times in Boston.
