When SNL announced that Andy Samberg would return to the show to host its season finale, it was pretty much a given that the episode would feature a few musical highlights. Samberg and Lonely Island’s wildly popular Digital Shorts have been noticeably absent from the show since Samberg’s departure, so it was hard to blame SNL for taking advantage of the opportunity.
Musical Highlights From SNL Finale
The night’s first Digital Short was a brilliant send-up of the mega-star, button-pusher DJ culture featuring Samberg as fictional DJ Davvincii, and posing the all-important question, “When will the bass drop?” Later, Samberg was joined by the rest of his Lonely Island crew–and the ubiquitous Pharrell Williams–for “Hugs.”
In addition to Samberg’s musical contributions, St. Vincent continued her hot-streak with incredible performances of “Digital Witness” and “Birth In Reverse.” Both performances featured robotic precision and some serious guitar chops from Annie Clark.
