Top 10 Upcoming Concert Tours of 2013

It seems like we’re always looking forward to what’s next. Sure, the cynics call it “escapism” and “not living in the moment,” but something tells me they’re not sitting in a cubicle filling out Excel spreadsheets from 9 to 5. For the rest of us, there are worse things than daydreaming about future plans, which is why we’ve assembled a list of our top 10 upcoming concert tours for 2013 and beyond. Think of it as a starter-kit—a pathway to better times in the form of superb live music.

1. The Weeknd

–Abel Tesfaye, otherwise known as The Weeknd, had a busy year. After releasing his haunting and massively successful trilogy of mixtapes as a single album titled, go figure, Trilogy, he’s now preparing for his next LP, Kiss Land, set for a September 10th release. A theater tour will follow this autumn, aptly titled “The Fall Tour.” He keeps things simple. I like that.

2. Arctic Monkeys

–In 2006, Arctic Monkeys released one of the most celebrated debut albums of all time. Nearly eight years later, the Beatles comparisons have subsided, and likely for the best. Something tells me Alex Turner simply wanted to create catchy garage rock without the weight of the Fab Four on his shoulders.

3. Neutral Milk Hotel

–Despite losing a bout on our Band Throwdown, concerts by this band qualify as one of our most anticipated upcoming concert tours of the past decade, rather than only 2013, but hey, they’re still stuck on ‘90’s speed, so we’ll give them a pass.

4. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

–Before Robin Thicke had everyone dancing to his ubiquitous anthem, this duo took us thrift shopping. Behind the strength of their breakout hit, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis set off to headline arenas. Throw in support from Talib Kweli and Big K.R.I.T. and you’ve got yourself a party.

5. The Black Crowes

–By extending their 2013 tour, these blues rockers have allowed us an extended opportunity to catch their live show, which by all indications, might be their last for some time.

6. Franz Ferdinand

–The Glasgow based four-piece prepare to release their fourth studio album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, coupled with a world tour, allowing you to scream the chorus of “Take Me Out” in unison, as opposed to alone in your shower.

7. Phantogram

–At the risk of being a jinx, I’ll go on record saying this band is going to be big. Really big. Their sound is a downright contagious brew of electronic music, indie pop, and beats that would make J Dilla proud (seriously, listen to “Don’t Move”). They’re currently putting the finishing touches on their album in a barn in upstate New York named the Harmony Lodge. Intrigued? I sure hope so.

 8. Washed Out

–We weren’t kidding when we named Washed Out one of the best indie artists of 2013. Ernest Greene has come a long way from producing songs in his bedroom, and he’s now touring on the “good vibes” of his enthralling new LP, Paracosm.

9. AlunaGeorge

–Hot off the burgeoning U.K. dance music scene, this producer / singer tandem add gas to the flame that artists like Disclosure and Jessie Ware have already started.

10. Rumors and speculation…

–I can’t help but salivate at the impending tour of Arcade Fire. With their album release set for October 29th (according to the mysterious tweet seen above), and upcoming concert tour dates already planned in Australia, a world tour for this transcendent live act proves imminent.

And, of course, there’s always Daft Punk. A rumored “surprise” appearance on the MTV VMA’s turned out to be untrue, but maybe we’ll all get lucky.
