Celine Dion Bio

Celine Dion is a Canadian icon and one of the most accomplished singers in music history. Her technical chops and powerful performances have made Celine Dion tickets some of the most in-demand tickets in the music world, and her records and live shows have influenced a generation of aspiring singers. From recording hit albums to headlining an ongoing show at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace Casino, Celine Dion has accomplished a lot in her long career. Of course, none of this was easy – it’s been a very long road, and it all began in the 1970s, when Dion was still a young child.

Dion was born Céline Marie Claudette Dion in Charlemagne, Quebec in 1968. Celine was born to a large French Canadian family: she was the youngest of fourteen children. Her father was a butcher and her mother was a homemaker, so the family had to get by with very little. Their budget stretched even thinner because of their large number of children. But family was important in the Dion household, and despite her impoverished childhood, Celine Dion flourished. Dion found a love of music very young – in some ways, her love affair with singing even seemed fated. She was named after Céline, a song by French singer Hugues Aufray. It was a fitting name for a future singer.

Celine Dion sang in public for the first time at her brother’s wedding. She was just five years old. She performed frequently after that, including many times at a local piano bar. Already a performer, Dion dreamed of being a famous one. There were already Celine Dion performances; why not Celine Dion albums and Celine Dion concert tickets?

To make help make it happen, Celine’s brother wrote to a music manager whose name he found on the back of an album. The manager was René Angélil, and to the shock of the family, he answered the letter. Angélil was so moved by Dion’s voice that he mortgaged his own home to help fund her first album, La voix du bon Dieu. The album, the title of which means “The Voice of the Good God” in French, was a huge hit in Dion’s home province of Quebec.

International acclaim came soon after, when Dion competed in the 1982 edition of Japan’s Yamaha World Popular Song Festival. She won the awards for Top Performer and Best Song. Building on that success, Dion competed in the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest later in the decade – and won.

Dion was already a respected industry figure, but she wasn’t yet a star. When she told René Angélil that she wanted to be like pop star Michael Jackson, he helped her take a break from the spotlight to prepare. Dion got dental surgery and practiced her English. After an injury to her vocal cords, she had surgery on those and had to re-train her voice.

Finally, Deline re-emerged and made her first English-language record, Unison. The new album was released in 1990, and its single, “Where Does My Heart Beat Now,” reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. Celine Dion had her first English-language hit.

Dion didn’t abandon her French-speaking fans. Throughout her career, she continued to sing in French and make full albums in the language. But her English-language hits were what opened her up to a broader audience and made her a massive international star.

By the mid-90s, Dion was at the height of her popularity. Things were going well in her personal life, too: Dion announced that she was dating her manager, René Angélil. The couple got married in 1994, and their wedding was broadcast live on Canadian television.

Falling into You (1996) was Dion’s fourth English-language album and her most experimental record yet. Critics adored the album, and fans loved it too. Dion enjoyed the best critical reviews of her young career, and fans lined up to get Celine Dion tickets and copies of the new album. Dion followed up the massive success with three more successful albums (two in English and one in French) before the end of the decade.

Then, Dion’s career took a turn. The impetus was an event in her personal life: her beloved husband, René Angélil, had throat cancer. Dion took a hiatus to spend more time with her family. Aside from a performance in the 9/11 benefit concert America: A Tribute to Heroes, Dion stayed out of the music business for three years. During that time, she gave birth to a son.

Dion returned to the business in 2002 with the album A New Day Has Come. She inked a deal to perform nightly at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, a gig that she continued with for five years. Celine Dion tickets sold out regularly in Vegas – despite the fact that the show ran almost every night, the fans couldn’t get enough.

After ending her Las Vegas run in 2007, Dion returned to recording and touring. D’elles, her next French-language album, was a monster hit in Canada that went platinum twice over. Her tour, meanwhile, delighted fans in the United States.

Dion continued her successful run through the late 2000s and early 2010s, releasing several more successful albums and touring extensively in North America and Europe. But trouble came for her again in 2014, when her husband René Angélil’s cancer worsened. Dion cancelled tour dates in Asia and rushed to be by his side.

Dion returned to Las Vegas in 2015, where touring would not take her away from her ailing husband. When René Angélil passed away in 2016, Dion took a short break before returning to the stage, where she honored him with a special show. From the moment he first heard her voice, Angélil had been a key part of Dion’s career; since the early 1990s, he’d been a key part of her personal life, too. Dion’s choice to honor him with song was fitting.

Dion’s show goes on in Las Vegas, where Celine Dion tickets are among the hottest sellers on the strip. Her powerful voice and her incredibly legacy are on display every time that she takes the stage.
