In this preseason matchup the Chiefs travel to take on the Saints. At the start of the second quarter, the Saints began lighting up the scoreboard beginning with Garrett Hartley 24 yard field goal before the end of the first half. A big third quarter for the Saints began as Luke McCown throws two touchdown passes with both to Preston Parker and both from 2 yards out. The fourth quarter picks up with another field goal from Succop from 32 yards out, but the scoring ends there as the Chiefs lose 13-17

Being in two different conferences (AFC & NFL) a Chiefs vs Saints game is a very rare occasion. But in this matchup we are treated to a very tight game that goes all the way into overtime. Action picks up quickly in the first quarter as Drew Brees finds Lance Moore for a 9 yard touchdown and a Saints early lead. The first quarter scoring ends with a Ryan Succop field goal and the Chiefs remain down 3-7. In the second quarter, the Chiefs and Saints trade field goals with the first coming from Garrett Hartley from 40 yards out and the second from Succop from 25 yards. The game heads into the half 10-6 with the Saints still on top. Second half action picks up as Drew Brees throws two touchdown passses in the third quarter one to Jimmy Graham for 1 yard and the other to Jed Collins for 6 yards. The Chiefs stay in the game when Jamaal Charles breaks off a huge run for a 91 yard touchdown. As the fourth quarter begins, it's all Kansas City as they get two field goals from Succop from 34 and 38 yards out. Midway through the fourth, Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston gets a sack on Drew Brees for a safety making the game 21-24. A late Succop field goal from 43 yards out ties the game with 8 seconds left as the game heads into the overtime. In overtime the Chiefs defense stops the Saints offense as the Chiefs get the ball back and drive down the field to kick a game winning field goal by Succop from 31 yards out as the Chiefs win 27-24.
