Kansas City takes advantage of the field position as Alex Smith finds Travis Kelce for a 9 yard touchdown. The trend would continue in the first quarter when Smith finds Kelce again for a touchdown from 42 yards out. But the Texans weren't out of it yet when Brian Hoyer finds DeAndre Hopkins for a 4 yard touchdown. Second quarter scoring picks up with 2 Cairo Santos field goals from 27 and 48 yards out for the Chiefs followed by a 7 yard touchdown pass to Jamaal Charles from Alex Smith. Driving at the end of the quarter, the Texans' Randy Bullock puts up a 34 yard field goal and the Texans head into the half down 27-9. Scoring in the second half didn't pick up until the fourth quarter when the Texans were attempting a comeback starting with an 8 yard Hopkins touchdown from Ryan Mallett. The Texans still in the game cut the game even closer with another Bullock field goal from 47 yards. But with little time in the game, Kansas City holds on to a 27-20 victory in the first game of the 2015 season. Chiefs QB Alex Smith ends the day with 3 TD's and 243 yards on 22-33 attempts.

The Chiefs look to stay undefeated as they face the Houston Texans in this midseason matchup. Scoring in the first quarter begins with a Randy Bullock field goal from 48 yards out. But the Chiefs would regain the lead late in the second quarter on an Alex Smith 5 yard touchdown run. The shootout began in the third quarter as Bullock hits another field goal from 21 yards out. Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop would fire back from 22 yards out midway through the third quarter. But Bullock would fire in his last field goal of the day from 47 yards out with the Texans still down 16-17. Defenses held strong the remainder of the game as the Chiefs come out victorious 16-17.
