Dallas Cowboys Overview

Dallas Cowboys Franchise History

There is no doubting the fact that the Dallas Cowboys are indeed rightfully labeled “America's Team.” The state of Texas was first introduced to Cowboys football all the way back in 1960 when they marched onto the field in the NFL's Western Conference with mean intentions. Those mean intentions translated into a zero-win campaign, but at least the Cowboys managed to get a tie during the season.

Luckily Dallas would start to see an upswing not long after that as the Cowboys' wins would certainly be much higher than the goose egg that they laid in the inaugural season. The franchise's first true success came in 1966 when Dallas maneuvered its way through the competition to make it all the way to the league championship game to meet the ferocious Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys didn't get the result they wanted, but everyone knew Dallas football was for real after that run.

The cheeseheads got the best of the Cowboys again the following year in the league's biggest game, with Dallas left wondering what might have been. After another title failure in 1970, the Cowboys were not gonna take it anymore and they made their presence felt on the title stage with a triumph over the Dolphins in the Super Bowl game, giving Dallas its first world title. That cemented the franchise as major players and made them a very feared football team.

Three Super Bowl trips between 1975 and 1978 would bring the Cowboys only one world title, but it was certainly better than none. But then the pressure started to set in and Dallas would be an afterthought in the Super Bowl for quite a while. 1986 saw the squad start a huge downward spiral which would culminate in an awful 1-15 campaign in 1989, leaving Dallas fans wondering if their team would ever be of any value again.

But three years was all the Cowboys needed to go from the bottom to the top, as Dallas obliterated the Buffalo Bills in the world championship game in 1992. They ousted the Bills again for another championship trophy the following season, and after letting others experience glory in 1994, the Cowboys decided to win another the next year.

However, that was 1995 and this is now. Unfortunately, since that success story, the Cowboys haven't even been able to get out of the divisional round, much less win a Super Bowl title. It's been a long time since Cowboys fans have felt the thrill of Super Bowl glory, and they are begging for Tony Romo and company to get them back there sooner rather than later.

Dallas Cowboys Marquee Players

The Cowboys and marquee players go together like peanut butter and jelly. There's been a ridiculously high amount of phenomenal athletes that have called Dallas their home over the years, and it's difficult to pinpoint one Cowboys player that stands out above the pack.

A whopping 18 Cowboys players have scooted their way into the Hall of Fame, with impressive names like Troy Aikman, Roger Staubach, Larry Allen, Tony Dorsett, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith among that unbelievably talented group.

Few franchises have been able to compile such a long list of great football players like Dallas has, so the Cowboys are in good shape when it comes to that.

If he can deliver a Super Bowl crown back to Dallas, perhaps Cowboys fans will eventually let Tony Romo be included in this marquee players discussion.

Dallas Cowboys Conference and Super Bowl Titles

Get out the reading glasses, Cowboys fans, because there is a lot to look at here. The league title total is at five, which it has been for 20 years and that may not set well with Dallas supporters.

As for conference championships, the Cowboys have reached double digits with 10 in their football history, and behind that, there's the insane 22 divisional trophies to go along with that.

It's a good thing that Jerry Jones has a ton of cash or Dallas may not be able to afford a trophy case large enough to hold all their titles.

Dallas Cowboys Venue Information

There was the Cotton Bowl games for the Cowboys, and then there was the Texas Stadium games for the Cowboys. But now, there is the mammoth of a stadium that could have about a zillion different names for it.

JerryWorld, or actually it's AT&T Stadium, plays home to the tenacious Cowboys for all of their somewhat all over the place home games. When Jerry Jones is involved with something, you know that he's going to shell out a lot of cash to make it special. Sure enough, he did just that by creating his own planet in Arlington.

The venue seemingly has hosted every non-Cowboys event under the sun since opening, so there has been variety to be had for those living in the area.

The stadium is simply a spectacle that would have to be experienced at a Dallas game to probably be believed.

Dallas Cowboys 2014 Season Recap

This had to be the year for the Cowboys to make the NFL season their masterpiece. The Super Bowl had to be Dallas' shining moment for the first time in 20 seasons. The Cowboys making the playoffs was a nice start, and it even appeared that Dallas would have a legitimate shot at winning a world title.

Then came the fateful controversial Dez Bryant play against the Green Bay Packers in the post-season, and thus Romo's best squad was left wondering what might have been yet again.

DeMarco Murray was an absolute beast in the backfield for the Cowboys' offensive attack, so with Romo at the top of his game, this was Dallas' best chance to reach the promised land.

But it was another set of failed expectations for the Cowboys, and at some point, a Super Bowl crown should come back to the Big D. As for when that will happen, Cowboys fans have no idea at this point given all the underwhelming post-season runs.
