The 2014 season kicked off with two historic teams meeting up for a game in East Rutherford, NJ as the Raiders take on the Jets. Rookie QB Derek Carr will look to lead the Raiders to a victory as Oakland see Carr as the future of the franchise. The struggling Raiders will also have help on defense from rookie Khalil Mack. The Raiders look to have a foundation set for the future and move past the mediocre seasons they've had recently. The Jets look to get back into the winning ways of a few years ago behind second year QB Geno Smith. Smith and the Jets have had their ups and downs but look to become competitive once again. Carr had an up and down day for the Raiders as he had trouble consistently scoring against a tough Jets defense. Smith ran the offense effectively for the Jets as they scored in each quarter. Scoring was small and as the game remained close throughout but the Jets edged out the Raiders 19-14. Chris Ivory had a big day for the Jets having 102 rushing yards with 1 touchdown. Despite his first NFL loss, Carr put up solid numbers with 151 passing yards and 2 touchdowns in the opener.

New York Jets: Oakland Raiders:

The New York Jets are optimistic heading into the 2015 as they acquired former players Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie in trades that completely change the defense. With a strong defense, the Jets will look to hold teams to low scoring as the offense will attempt to light up the scoreboard. The Raiders are also looking better this season as they are under the direction of second year QB Derek Carr who will want to build on his decent rookie season. Carr may struggle against an elite NFL secondary in this matchup but will also make use of his new weapon Amari Cooper who was drafted from Alabama. The matchup of young rookie WRs against experienced DBs will be one to watch as the Jets take on the Raiders.
