Kevin Darnell Hart is an American comedian and actor. Hart was born on July 6th, 1979 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He and his older brother were raised in Philadelphia by their single mother. Hart’s father spent time in and out of jail, being absent throughout most of their childhood. As a child, Hart began using comedy to help him deal with his difficult life experiences, such as his father’s drug abuse and incarceration. Comedians such as Bill Cosby and Chris Rock influenced Hart to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.

After graduating high school, Hart spent two years at a university in Philadelphia before moving to New York City to attend community college. He graduated and then moved to Brockton, Massachusetts, where he found a job as a shoe salesman. Hart’s career rolled off to a slow start as he began performing in open mic nights at local comedy clubs under the name ‘Lil’ Kev.’ He started with very small audiences and was often booed off stage.

Hart continued to perform at comedy clubs and festivals. His appearance at the “Just For Laughs Comedy Festival” in Montreal, Canada, earned him his first acting gig, starring in his debut movie Paper Soldiers in 2002. His acting career continued to flourish as he went on to play CJ in third installment of the Scary Movie franchise, alongside stars such as Queen Latifah, Charlie Sheen and Anna Faris. He returned for the fourth Scary Movie in 2006.

In 2004, Hart starred in the hilarious comedy Soul Plane with Snoop Dogg, Method Man and Tom Arnold. In its opening weekend, the film made more than $5 million in the box office, despite receiving mostly negative reviews from critics. That year, Hart also starred as “Kevin” in the ABC sitcom The Big House however, the show was cancelled after just six episodes.

Hart was featured as himself in 21 episodes of Nick Cannon’s sketch comedy Wild ‘n Out in 2007.

In 2008, Hart made appearances in many movies such as Fool’s Gold, Superhero Movie, Extreme Movie, Meet Dave and Drillbit Taylor. Fool’s Gold, in which Hart starred alongside Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, grossed over $21 million in its first week.

Kevin Hart: I’m a Grown Little Man, the comedy/documentary film was released on February 3rd, 2009.

Hart made an appearance in 2010 as Nurse Louis in Little Fockers, the sequel to Meet the Parents (2000) and Meet the Fockers (2004). The movie, starring heavy-hitters Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Owen Wilson and Teri Polo, grossed over $310 million worldwide.

Hart’s stand-up comedy film at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, titled Kevin Hart: Laugh At My Pain, was released on September 9th, 2011. On its opening weekend, the movie made nearly $2 million. The film won Hart the BET Award for Best Actor. That year he was also made an appearance on Modern Family as Andre, and returned for another episode in 2012. In addition, Hart hosted the BET Awards in 2011.

In 2012, Hart starred as Cedric in Think Like a Man, along with Michael Ealy, Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union and Meagan Good. Think Like a Man was based off of actor/comedian Steve Harvey’s 2009 book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. The film brought in $33.7 million on its opening weekend, earning the #1 spot at the box office. That year, Hart also made an appearance as Doug in the film The Five-Year Engagement, starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt. Hart hosted the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

The film Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain, Hart’s sold-out 2012 special at Madison Square Garden, was released in theaters on July 3rd, 2013. The film grossed over $32 million total in the box office. That year he also starred in the film Grudge Match along with veteran actors Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro. The film ranked #11 in the box office and earned $7 million its opening weekend on December 25th, 2013. Hart was featured as himself in the 2013 comedy This Is the End, starring Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, Jay Baruchel and Danny McBride.

The reality-television parody Real Husbands of Hollywood, created by and starring Hart was released on BET in January of 2013. The show stars Hart, Nelly, Nick Cannon, Boris Kodjoe, Duane Martin, JB Smoove and Robin Thicke (first season). The series’ second season premiered in October of 2013 and the third was released in April of 2014. The show was renewed for a fourth season in 2015. The show has featured many stars throughout its series such as Cedric the Entertainer, Russell Simmons, Chris Rock, Shaquille O’Neal, Conan O’Brien and George Lopez. Real Husbands of Hollywood won two NAACP Image Awards in 2014 for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series.

Hart starred as Ben Barber alongside Ice Cube in the 2014 action-comedy film Ride Along. The film’s opening weekend gross was over $41 million in the US and Canada. The movie also won Hart a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor: Comedy in 2014. Hart starred with Michael Ealy in the 2014 film About Last Night. The film was released on Valentine’s Day, bringing in over $26 million and ranking second after The Lego Movie. On June 20th, 2014 the sequel to Think Like a Man, titled Think Like a Man Too, was released. The film ranked #1 in the box office and since has grossed more than $70 million worldwide.

Hart hosted the January 17th, 2015 episode of Saturday Night Live. He starred in the film The Wedding Ringer as Jimmy. As of April 2015, the film has grossed over $75 million worldwide. Hart also stars as Darnell Lewis in the film Get Hard alongside Will Ferrell. The movie was released to theaters on March 27th and grossed over $99 million.

On March 30th, 2015 Hart hosted The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber. The Justin Bieber roast was the most recent of the fourteen Comedy Central Roasts. The special featured celebrities such as Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Martha Stewart, Shaquille O’Neal, Will Ferrell and Jeff Ross.

On April 28th, 2015 Hart began his What Now? Tour at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. The tour will continue through August, ending in Toronto, Canada. Hart will perform stand-up on the tour for classic venues such as Madison Square Garden.

Hart is set to return as Ben in Ride Along 2, which will be released in 2016.
