Lady Antebellum Details

Lady Antebellum Bio

Lady Antebellum’s brand of country music has won them fans all over the country. Its trio of talented members – Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood – combine to give Lady Antebellum a unique vocal style that blends country music with pop elements. The stylistic blend helped Lady Antebellum rise rapidly to fame in the late 2000s, and the group’s work ethic and commitment to their craft have helped them stay on top. Today, fans rush to get their hands on Lady Antebellum tickets and albums.

The individual members of Lady Antebellum came to the group with music already a deeply important part of each of their lives. Hillary Scott, one of the group’s two lead singers, is the daughter of country music singer Linda Davis, who had a successful career of her own in the 80s and 90s. Scott got her own start in music when she joined her mother on stage.

Charles Kelley, the other lead singer of the band, also grew up with music in the family. His older brother, Josh Kelley, is a pop rock musician. Charles went a different direction with his own music, choosing to travel to Nashville to pursue a career in country music. Kelley left behind a construction career in North Carolina when he made the decision to follow his dreams.

Dave Haywood, the group’s backing vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, was also first exposed to music through his family. Though he’s the only professional musician in his family, both of Dave’s parents were involved in making music through their church. Dave, like Kelley, is from Georgia – they attended the same middle school together. Haywood followed Kelley to Nashville when Kelley invited him to write music with him.

Haywood and Kelley worked together for a time, hoping to use Haywood’s songwriting talent to get Kelley’s solo career off the ground. They posted their work on Myspace, where it was noticed by Scott. When Scott ran into Kelley at a Nashville venue, they got to talking. Before long, Kelley had invited Kelley to come work with him and Haywood. When the three got together, they found that they had chemistry, and officially formed a band. That band, of course, was Lady Antebellum. It was 2006, and the trio was on its way.

As Lady Antebellum, the trio began playing small venues around Nashville. The first Lady Antebellum tickets were sold in small local clubs – and some of them were sold to record company scouts. It didn’t take long for the fledgling group to be noticed.

In July of 2007, the group inked their first major-label deal. They signed on with Capitol Nashville. That same year, made their debut as a featured artist on a track by Jim Brickman called “Never Alone.” “Never Alone” was a minor hit, and the group also contributed a song to MTV’s The Hills, but they didn’t hit it big until their first album was released.

That debut album, the self-titled Lady Antebellum, was released in April of 2008. It debuted at number one on the country album charts, the first group debut ever to achieve that feat (only solo artists had done so before). The album went platinum, aided by the success of its singles “Love Don’t Live Here,” “Lookin’ for a Good Time,” and especially “I Run to You.” “I Run to You” was noteworthy for being the band’s first big crossover hit – in addition to topping the country songs chart, “I Run to You” also cracked the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 27. It was an early sign that Lady Antebellum’s success wouldn’t be limited to traditional country audiences. Fans around the world appreciated Lady Antebellum’s style, and Lady Antebellum tickets sold as well in major northern cities as they did in traditional country hotbeds.

Lady Antebellum was on top of the world, and they had a golden opportunity to prove that they weren’t just one-album wonders. The group didn’t miss its chance. The trio headed back to the studio and began working on their follow-up, Need You Now. The title track was released in August of 2009 and reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, a new high-water mark for the band in terms of mainstream success. The album also included multiple country chart-toppers, bringing their total number of number one country songs to four. The album itself hit number one, too, topping the Billboard 200 albums chart. Lady Antebellum responded by bringing their music to an even wider audience: they launched their first headlining tour, giving fans across the country their first chance to buy Lady Antebellum tickets. The band also performed at high-profile events like the 2010 World Series, where they sang the National Anthem before Game 2.

A year after their World Series appearance, the members of Lady Antebellum were in the spotlight again. They released Own the Night in 2011. The group’s third album was a critical and commercial success, and firmly established the band as one of country’s most consistent hitmakers. Lady Antebellum’s first two albums had gone platinum, and Own the Night followed suit. It made the number one spot on the Billboard 200, and its lead single, “Just a Kiss,” cracked the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. Two singles (“Just a Kiss” and “We Owned the Night”) both hit number one on the country charts, and a third (“Dancin’ Away with My Heart”) took the number two spot.

Lady Antebellum was bigger than ever, and they enjoyed their time at the top. They made a country album (2012’s On This Winter’s Night) before returning to studio albums with 2013’s Golden. Golden was another hit, and critics hailed it as a return to country form for the band. The album debuted atop the Billboard 200 and performed well commercially.

In 2014, the group reaffirmed their crossover pop appeal while exploring a more diverse set of influences in their new album 747. Critics and fans alike praised the album, which showed a bolder vision for the band’s music direction. It was clear that Lady Antebellum’s members were not going to let their commercial success get in the way of their artistic vision.

Today, Lady Antebellum continues to innovate while making music that boasts a wide appeal to fans of both country and pop music. The group is still at the height of its powers, and Lady Antebellum’s music is only becoming more interesting as its members mature as songwriters and musicians. Fans of the group can look forward to great recordings and great performances for a long time to come.
