2016 Masters Outlook

Once again, the golf world has its eyes focused on Augusta, GA for The Masters Tournament that kicks off the first major of the year for the PGA. The best players in the world are looking to have a strong showing in the first major of the year. Jordan Spieth, the 2015 Masters winner, will look to repeat this year and start off strong. But another strong competitor in Rory Mcilroy will be hot on Spieth’s heels to try and dethrone last year’s Masters champion. Mcilroy who is one of the best in the game has yet to win the Masters Tournament, which is the only major Mcilroy has not won. Other names to look out for at this year’s Masters Tournament are Rickie Fowler, who is looking for his first major win, and Phil Mickelson, who at the age of 45 is looking to capture his fourth Masters Tournament title. This year’s Masters Tournament will not feature 4 time Masters Champion, Tiger Woods. The 2016 Masters could prove to be one of the best yet so make sure to tune in April 7th-10th.

The Masters Tournament History

The Masters Tournament held in Augusta, GA is has remained one of the four biggest professional golf spectacles since its beginning in 1934. Always being held in the first week in April, the Masters kicks off the first of the four majors to be held that features the best professional golfers in the world. Many players tend to use The Masters as a starting point to give them momentum heading forward towards the other three majors to be held that year. Unlike the other major championships, The Masters Tournament has always been held in the same location at Augusta National Golf Club.

Since 1949, a tradition at The Masters has formed that the champion of the tournament is awarded a green jacket that they get to keep for the year but must return it the next year where they are to award the jacket to the winner the that year. The jacket provides a strong sense of pride to the year's winner because it means that they are now apart of an elite and exclusive club of players who have won The Masters Tournament.

The Masters has seen the best players that professional golf has had to offer and has featured some elite performances and wins by those players. Jack Nicklaus has the most Masters Tournament wins with 6 from 1963-1986. Arnold Palmer and Tigers Woods have both won 4 Masters Tournaments and Jimmy Demaret, Sam Snead, Gary Player, Nick Faldo, and Phil Mickelson all won 3 Masters Tournaments. Getting a green jacket once is a great honor for a player, but winning it multiple times is a truly special accomplishment that not all professional golfers get to experience.

The quest for the green jacket and The Masters title is on the line come April 7th. The players will be prepped and ready to go in the hopes to take away the first major of the year. The Masters can be the best launching place for professional golfer who is looking to win multiple majors in one year. Don’t miss out on the great golf action provided at the Masters Tournament in Augusta, GA.
