New England Patriots Bio

New England Patriots Franchise History

The New England Patriots burst onto the professional football scene back in 1960 when the American Football League was still running strong. Although their inaugural year in the world of football did not go as planned thanks to plenty of struggles and a 5-9 record overall, the Pats would pick things up the following year.

In fact, New England would roll to four straight winning seasons, which included a trip all the way to the AFL Championship in 1963 and even a stellar 10-win season in 1964. Unfortunately, the success would not last very long, as the team had a grueling stretch of five seasons with double-digit losses in only six years.

The team was able to get things headed back in the right direction with a couple of playoff appearances in the late 70s, but it would be the next decade that would bring about some lasting success. New England only had two losing years during the glorious 80s, with their Super Bowl XX showdown with the incredibly talented Chicago Bears undoubtedly being the highlight of that run.

While a few playoff appearances would keep the fans happy over the next 10 years, they would find a new level of momentum once the year 1996 came around. Although a Super Bowl loss to the Green Packers was not the desired result, there was something in the air in New England.

Once the super team of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady came to town, everything changed for the Patriots franchise. The year 2001 would mark the beginning of one of the most dominant eras in professional sports, as the Pats would start to dominate the NFL playoffs like no one had in quite a while. Over the next four years, New England would capture the attention of every football fan in the world by winning three Super Bowl crowns behind the sure arm of Brady.

Of course, they weren't even close to being done there. More playoff appearances came their way, and then it was time for an absolutely magical season in 2007. The Pats went through the regular season without a blemish on their record and left the 1972 Miami Dolphins shaking in their boots. However, Eli Manning and the underdog New York Giants would shock the world and beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl, ending the franchise's hopes of completing a perfect campaign.

After another Super Bowl disappointment against the Giants four years later, Pats fans were left wondering if the team would ever be able to reach the pinnacle as they did in the early 2000s. Well, three years and one goal-line interception later, and New England would do just that in outlasting the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX.

New England Patriots Marquee Players

The Patriots franchise has retired seven numbers in their history and have also had 20 players enter the Hall of Fame. Players like John Hannah, Ben Coates, Drew Bledsoe, and Tedy Bruschi have all made their way into the most prestigious group in the NFL.

But there will always be one name that sticks out above the rest when it comes to discussing the most talented players in the history of the franchise, and that name is Tom Brady.

What Brady has been able to accomplish is just unbelievable at times, and having already delivered four Super Bowl titles to Patriots fans, he will no doubt go down in history as one of the best quarterbacks to ever stop onto the field.

New England Patriots Conference and Super Bowl Titles

Before Brady and company came along, this would have been a rather quick list. Zero Super Bowl titles and only a couple of conference championships. That would have summed it up.

But now, of course, the Patriots have racked up in the championship department. New England has four Super Bowl trophies to its credit and has also managed to add a whopping eight conference titles.

Oh, and if you add in the fact that they also have 17 division titles, this has without question become one of the most decorated teams in pro football.

New England Patriots Venue Information

The Patriots have went through six stadiums during the team's history, which even included a five-year stint at Fenway Park. These days, the franchise does its damage at Gillette Field, a stadium that entered the picture right as New England was tearing up the league in the early 2000s.

The team hasn't exactly had trouble selling tickets in their stadium, with every game doing down as a sellout since they first took the field there. In an era where some teams may struggle to get people in the stands, the Patriots' long-lasting success has been able to push that problem to the side.

Overall, the stadium has seen numerous impressive improvements since opening to the public, and it certainly keeps Pats fans wanting to come back for more each season.

New England Patriots 2014 Season Recap

There were high expectations for the Patriots entering the 2015 NFL season after bowing out in the conference title game the year before. Would New England find its way back to the Promised Land?

Well, by now, we all know the answer to that. The Patriots were considered one of the best teams in the league throughout the entire season, and after surviving against their stingy foe Baltimore in the divisional round, they made quick work of the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC title round.

And then came the game of the century against the defending champion Seahawks in what would be one of the most memorable Super Bowl games in recent memory.

All hope seemed lost for New England entering the final few seconds when Seattle looked sure to deliver the game-winning touchdown after being only a yard shy of the end zone. However, one Russell Wilson interception later, and the duo of Belichick and Brady had captured yet another world championship for the Pats.

After a 10 year world title drought, it was certainly what the doctor ordered for all Pats fans around the world.
